Ayurveda is an ancient system that bases treatment on balancing the three doshas. Ayurvedic skin care can include facials, face masks, and herbal formulations. The principles of Ayurveda are based on five elements: earth, water, air, space and fire. These five elements characterize our entire existence and we can find them everywhere.
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system used for skin care that has been practiced for over 5000 years. It is a complete health care system that addresses the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life. Ayurvedic treatments depend on all of these factors. Under this system, you’ll need to make adjustments to your lifestyle, diet, stress, and exercise in order to promote healthy skin.
Skin is a vital part of our body’s health and wellbeing. From an ayurvedic perspective, the major underlying cause of disease is improper diet and lifestyle. If you pursue a diet or lifestyle that goes against your nature (known as your prakriti), you can develop a bodily imbalance that gives rise to skin disorders.
While imbalance of any dosha may cause skin disease, it is associated more with pitta imbalance (the heat element). Any activity that increases the fire or heat element in the body aggravates pitta and can lead to skin problems. Such vitiation of Doshas is also possible stress/ anxiety.
Many patients got benefit from ayurvedic treatment at Ganesh holistic wellness clinic. Long term and individualized therapy, Panchakarma therapies, a proper diet regime is a key to get rid of any skin disease.
According to Ayurveda, a person’s skin type is based on the three doshas. These are bioenergetic or life forces that make up the constitution of the body and mind. They are:
VATA DOSHA - A vata dominant person has dry and rough skin that tends to wrinkle if not moisturized regularly. “Vata type skin has fewer fat deposits and needs more moisturizing, both externally and internally,”.
PITTA DOSHA - People with high pitta tend to have oily skin that’s prone to acne and rosacea. “This type of skin needs more cooling elements like aloe vera, turmeric (which is anti-inflammatory), and sandalwood (which reduces pimples and redness),".
KAPHA DOSHA - Kapha skin tends to be cold and oily, and it may be prone to pimples, whiteheads, and water retention. Physician recommends dry brushing to remove obstructions, stimulate the lymphatic system, and exfoliate.
